Airbrush Tanning Facts

“Avoid the Orange”

  1. The solution we use for our airbrush tanning is very similar to over the counter tanning preparations in that it contains dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a sugar cane derivative that reacts with the amino acids in the very outer layer of skin to create a golden glow. Our solution has a higher concentration of DHA so you get a dark tan with just one application. Using an airbrush application eliminates the streaking and blotching you often get with self-application. Our solution contains a bronzer to instantly tan your skin. Your instant light tan will continue to darken over the next 8 hours.
  2. Your tan will last about 1 week, but many factors can influence its’ longevity. Because the color lies in the outer layer of skin, as your skin sloughs, so will the tan. Anything done that is abrasive to the skin or causes increased sloughing can make it wear off sooner. This includes wearing tight fitted clothing, washing in the shower or bath with a puff or wash cloth, using abrasive soaps and cleansers, soaking for prolonged periods of time in the hot bath, hot tub or pool.
  3. To prepare for the tan, it is best to do a light exfoliation a few days prior to your appointment. This can be done with an exfoliating body wash and shower puff. Avoid aggressive exfoliation as this may alter the top layer of skin and cause irritation.
  4. On the day of the tan, bathe and do your normal AM routine. Light moisturizer may be applied unless you shower shortly before your appointment. Heavy make-up will need to be removed as this may interfere with the DHA absorption.
  5. A full body application takes about 10 minutes. You may wear an old bathing suit, bra and underwear, thong, etc. Bottoms must be worn by law, tops are optional. You will have tan lines so keep this in mind if you are tanning for a special event and will be wearing a sleeveless or strapless gown. You will need to dry for 15 minutes before leaving the office. Bring loose fitting cotton clothing to wear home. This will prevent any solution from rubbing off. DHA can stain non-cotton fibers. Synthetic fibers should not be worn until you have showered. Any residual color washes easily out of cotton clothing.
  6. It is essential that you stay dry for at least 8 hours. Excessive sweating can cause streaking. You may shower in 8 hours. The instant bronzer will wash off but your tan will continue to develop over a 24 hour period. If your tanning session is late in the day you may wish to wait until the following morning to shower. This will not affect your tan.
  7. Daily application of moisturizer will keep your tan looking natural and increase longevity. At ADVANCED SKIN CARE we offer a variety of body products that will help to retain your tan.

My sister’s friends in Miami were amazed that my airbrush tan was not real. I was the same color as my sister, who lays out two times per week!
